Proteas bowl at Newlands as Maharaj left out

Cape Town - The Proteas will bowl first in the second Test against Pakistan at Newlands after they won the toss on Thursday.

LIVE: Proteas v Pakistan - 2nd Test, Day 1

With selection the major talking point in the build-up to the Test, the Proteas eventually opted to go in without a spin bowler.

It means that Keshav Maharaj misses out while Vernon Philander returns from injury in front of his home crowd.

The Proteas will operate with four seamers as Philander joins Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier in an attack that will want to make serious inroads into the Pakistan batting line-up in the opening session.

Teams:

South Africa

Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Hashim Amla, Theunis de Bruyn, Faf du Plessis (captain), Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada, Duanne Olivier

Pakistan

Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Shan Masood, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Abbas
