Good news on De Kock injury front

Wanderers - Quinton de Kock's knee injury is not as bad as initially feared, the Proteas have confirmed.

De Kock was ruled out of the third Test against England at the Wanderers on Thursday after he tripped and twisted his knee while walking his dogs

The 23-year-old's place in the side was taken by Dane Vilas, who caught an early flight from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg on Thursday just hours before he was due to turn out for the Cape Cobras against the Warriors in Sunfoil Series action.

De Kock, meanwhile, was sent for scans ... and the news seemed positive.

The scan showed no tear to the right knee, though it did reveal a mild sprain.

The injury will be monitored over the next few days, and while the Proteas could not confirm De Kock's availability for the Pretoria Test on January 22, early indications are positive.

Vilas made 26 in South Africa's first innings on Thursday.
