Cape Town - The Proteas' leading Test wicket-taker, Dale Steyn, announced his retirement from red ball cricket with immediate effect on Monday.
The 36-year-old brought down the curtain on one of the great fast bowling Test careers of the modern era.
Steyn, who made his international debut against England in 2004, last played a Test in February 2019 against Sri Lanka.
He took 439 wickets in 93 Tests at an average of 22.95.
Steyn held the top spot in the International Cricket Council's Test bowler rankings for a record 263 weeks between 2008 and 2014.
