Cape Town - Former Protea HD Ackerman has been unveiled as the new batting coach of the Afghanistan national team.
The 46-year-old will join former team-mate and Proteas legend Lance Klusener, who is currently serving as head coach of Afghanistan.
Ackerman will start his new role from the beginning of March ahead of Afghanistan's T20 series against Ireland.
Former Proteas spinner Robin Peterson is the side's spin bowling coach while another South African in Rivash Gobind is the assistant coach.
A technically gifted middle-order batsman, Ackerman played 4 Test matches for the Proteas in 1998.
His first-class record, though, shows why he was so highly-rated.
Ackerman scored no less than 40 centuries at that level at an average of 43.65.
