Fit-again Ngidi ready to impress Proteas selectors

Cape Town - Proteas young gun Lungi Ngidi admits he is excited about showcasing his talents for South Africa 'A' and is eager to impress the Proteas selectors.

Ngidi, 21, made his whirlwind start to his international career for the Proteas in the T20I series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

The paceman picked up six wickets in his first two matches - with a man-of-the-match debut performance of 2/20 in Centurion and 4/19 in Johannesburg.

Injury put a dampener on his potential one-day national debut when he tore an abdominal muscle during the third T20I against Sri Lanka at Newlands.

However, Ngidi is back and has been selected in the one-day and four-day SA 'A' squads to take on the England Lions in June.

"I'm feeling good, excited about the opportunity to play cricket again. I had a nice long rest, so I'm looking to impress on this tour," Ngidi told reporters.

"It's my first time there (in England), we have constantly spoken about the lengths we need to bowl and we're looking forward to the challenge."

The Proteas are currently in the UK playing in a three-ODI series against England before taking part in the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins June 1.

Ngidi will be hoping to perform with the ball and potentially catch the eye of the Proteas selectors for the upcoming three-T20I series against England starting on June 21.

"That will be great (to get a call-up for the Proteas), but I need to first focus on the tour," said Ngidi.

"As you know, anything is possible for the Proteas being that side.

"So I'm just looking forward to this tour and maybe get the opportunity to represent the Proteas again."

The South Africa 'A' squads depart for England on Tuesday.
