Embrace criticism, says Cullinan

Cape Town - Former Proteas batsman Daryll Cullinan believes South Africa’s cricketers should take criticism in their stride.

Cullinan, who played 70 Tests and 138 ODIs for the Proteas, has been vocal with his opinions in the past, at times to the dismay of players and coaches.

Cullinan watched the recent Test between South Africa and England at Newlands with interest and posted the following message on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

“There is nothing wrong with criticism as long as it is backed up by facts and has credibility behind it. One of the things that our cricket lacks is the maturity to embrace it, work with it and evaluate its value.

“This can only come from people who are secure enough in the own opinions and credibility. When they are not, they surround themselves with like-minded people, have a lager mentality, label the critics as negative who have nothing good to say and only out to break down our game.

“Many of you I am sure, are very successful in your chosen careers, particularly in corporate and if you are, I am sure you embrace the outcasts, for often they provide the most value and give a different perspective even if it's only what can go wrong. A robust workplace cannot be, if managed well, a detriment to your business and for that matter our cricket."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
