Elgar pleased to see Proteas' efforts rewarded

Cape Town - Proteas opening batsman Dean Elgar admits that he is pleased to see the team's efforts rewarded after their successful home series wins this summer.

Elgar was often at the centre of South Africa's key moments, facing the testing new ball upfront, in a summer where the Proteas faced quality attacks from India and Australia.

The Proteas went on to defeat the world No 1 team, India, 2-1 in the three-match Test series and win a tough and controversial four-match Test series 3-1 against Australia.

For his efforts throughout the 2017/18 season, Elgar is nominated for Test Player of the Year, as well as the coveted SA Cricketer of the Year award.

"Those who know me will tell you that I am the last guy who plays for personal accolades, but it is nice to see the efforts of a tough season rewarded," Elgar told the Titans' website.

"We all had to work really hard to get through some very tough cricket, against some really tough opposition.

"We worked towards a common goal, and we were successful. It is nice to see those performances now recognised after a good season."

The CSA Awards Dinner will be televised live on SuperSport 2 on June 2 from 20:00.
