Aussies set to unleash debutant on Proteas

Cape Town - Joe Mennie looks set to make his Test debut for Australia in the second Test against the Proteas in Hobart.

The 27-year-old is the likely replace the injured Peter Siddle (back), who gave a solid display in the first Test in Perth, which the Proteas one.

Mennie was named as 12th man for that Test and when he wasn't picked he went off to play a Sheffield Shield match for South Australia were he carded figures of 2/16 and 1/55 against Tasmania.

Mennie made his ODI debut for Australia in the recently completed ODI series in South Africa, but this would be a significant step up against a Proteas side currently oozing confidence.

"I'm feeling as good as I can be," Mennie said on Wednesday.

Mennie, who bowls in the mid-130 km/h range, says that he has spent some time chatting to Siddle.

"He's been really good and a great stalwart for Australia over the years," he said.

"He was really good last week and a great guy to have talking to me. We've just been talking about general bowling stuff."

Mennie did not watch a lot of the first Test due to his participation, but he is obviously keen to get involved.

"Any wicket would be fine ... if you get your first one, you're away," he said.
