Amla sets the standard in County Championship

Cape Town - South Africa's Hashim Amla is setting the standard in the 2018 edition of England's County Championship.

After four rounds of action, the 35-year-old is the leading run scorer in Division One.

Amla has played in all four matches for Hampshire and, while he has not been at his best for the Proteas recently, he has been in good form on the County scene.

In seven innings, Amla has scored 381 runs with one century and three half-centuries at an average of 54.42 to lead the way in the competition.

Another South African, Dane Vilas, is in second place on the run scorer's list.

Vilas, who has also played four matches, has 350 runs to his name at an average of 70.00 though those numbers are due largely to his innings of 235* for Lancashire this past weekend in their draw against Somerset.

Unlike Amla, Vilas is in England on a Kolpak deal and is not available for Proteas selection.

Another South Africa, Colin Ackermann, is the leading run scorer in Division Two with 292 runs at an average of 73.00.

County Championship Division One leading run scorers:

1 Hashim Amla - 381

2 Dane Vilas - 350

3 Rory Burns - 340

4 Ben Foakes - 301

5 Ross Taylor - 276

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
