Harare - Proteas spinner, Imran Tahir, has been given a timely confidence boost following his performance in the Triangular series match against Australia on Wednesday.
The leg-spinner made an impact with the ball on a batting friendly deck at the Harare Sports Club, and has put aside his disappointing performances in the longer format of the game.
"It feels good," Tahir said of his performance.
"I’m honoured to be part of this talented team.
"I have been working hard on my fitness and bowling and I’m glad that it went well for me.
"If I keep putting in the hard work hopefully the results will continue to come."
"I don’t know either," he said of the reason for contrasting performances in Tests and ODI's.
"I always feel that my role is a bit attacking but I can take wickets even in Tests.
"Things didn’t go my way in a few series but I’m positive.
"I’m not going to give up; I will continue to give my best to try and justify my place again.
"I’m in a good space, I’m not thinking about Test cricket at the moment, just focusing on the current series.”
Tahir finished with match figures of two for 45 in 10 overs, the most economical bowler of the high-scoring match.
"They (Australia) are the number one team in the world," he said.
"If you do well against them it always means a lot.
"It was a good performance and it’s always going to be a good challenge playing against them (Australia).
"We did what we had to do to win yesterday but in the next few games it could still change."
The Proteas have shifted their focus to their second match of the series against Zimbabwe on Friday, and will be hoping to continue with their dominance over the hosts.
"We are in a really good space as a squad," Tahir said.
"After the win yesterday the belief has gotten stronger. Every game matters, even when we play against Zimbabwe, who can be a dangerous side.
"We have to take every game seriously.”
