Cape Town - Former Proteas' ODI skipper Graeme Smith is engaged to his Irish girlfriend, Morgan Deane.

Sport24 has reliably learned that Smith popped the question over the weekend while holidaying in Ireland.

Social networking sites Facebook and Twitter were abuzz on Sunday with congratulations for the couple.

Smith came under fire for travelling to Ireland instead of returning home to face the music after the Proteas crashed out of the Cricket World Cup against New Zealand, last month.
