Show your Proteas support

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) has launched a “Pure Protea” twibbon to encourage fans to show their 100% support for the Proteas on Facebook and Twitter.

Social networking sites have been abuzz all summer in support of the Proteas, with the CSA Facebook fans page topping 80 000 and its Twitter platform attracting over 11 500 followers.

CSA Brand & Corporate Relations Manager, Kass Naidoo, said: “Social media has been a key communications tool for CSA over the past 18 months. We are engaging with a diverse audience and it allows us to stay on top of public opinion and act when necessary. This has resulted in an improved fan experience and CSA aims to continue this momentum.

“It’s been particularly rewarding to see well-known South Africans show their support by including the Pure Protea twibbon on their avatar, including Springbok rugby player Bryan Habana and Espresso host Liezel van der Westhuizen.”

Fans can also show their 100% support for the Proteas by wearing their cricket shirt on a Friday in support of Lead SA’s “Pure Protea Friday” initiative and the Ministry of Sport and Recreation’s “Magnificent Fridays”.

“There has definitely been an increased interest in the CSA fan merchandise. Everyone is keen to show they are 100% behind the Proteas. Traffic to the online store has also increased and merchandise at retail stores has been selling well.

“There is also big interest in the Proteas World Cup replica jersey, which will be launched on Tuesday, February 1. These jerseys go on sale on Wednesday, February 2 at major retailers.”

Four lucky fans will get the opportunity to don the Proteas World Cup replica shirt during the fashion show to unveil the kit at the official send off event in Johannesburg n Tuesday, February 1. Fans can enter this competition by logging on to www.cricket.co.za or by listening to 94.7 Highveld Stereo.

Fans can also catch the Pure Protea World Cup spirit as the UbuntuNOW road show makes its way around the country. The next stop is Twin City Mall in Bloemfontein on Saturday, January 29, from 12:00 to 15:00.
