Rain ends first Test

Cape Town - The fifth day of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa in Chittagong has been abandoned without a ball being bowled ending the match in a draw.

The first session was lost due to rain and shortly after noon (Bangladesh time) play was called off. There was no play on the fourth day of the Test as rain continued to dominate the headlines.

South Africa were 61-0 in their second innings after bowling out Bangladesh for 326 before rain and bad light forced early stumps on the third day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Openers Stiaan van Zyl and Dean Elgar were on 33 and 28 runs respectively, whittling down Bangladesh's first innings lead to 17.

The Proteas were all out for 248 runs in the first innings.

The second and final Test will be held in Dhaka from July 30 to August 3.
