Cape Town - Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada recalls how emotional the change-room was after Dale Steyn claimed his 400th Test wicket in last month’s series against Bangladesh.
Steyn claimed three wickets on the first and only day of the second Test in Mirpur to become the only the second South African to go past 400 in Test cricket after Shaun Pollock.
Rabada was a part of the Test squad in Bangladesh though he did not make his debut. Still, the 20-year-old considers himself fortunate to have been a part of Steyn’s celebrations.
“It was great. We shared a moment after the first day’s play. We just congratulated him (Steyn) and it meant a lot to him and also to the team. He was basically in tears,” said Rabada.
“The Proteas meant a lot for him and it’s great to be around one of the best bowlers arguably ever in the game … not just in the world right now, but one of the best bowlers ever. So it’s great to say that you’ve shared a dressing room with a guy like that.”
Rabada is set to feature throughout the Proteas’ limited overs series against New Zealand this month, starting with Friday’s T20 against New Zealand in Durban, and a Test debut cannot be far away.
“The more games you play the more you get a feel for it. It’s been good so far, I’m just hoping to play more games,” he said.
