Kanpur - The Proteas have scored 303/5 in their allotted 50 overs in the first ODI against India in Kanpur.

Earlier, South Africa's captain AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat at the Green Park stadium.

The tourists were boosted by the return of pace spearheads Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, who were rested for the preceding Twenty20 series which their team won 2-0.

India chose leg-spinner Amit Mishra to partner off-break bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who is appearing in his 100th one-dayer. All-rounder Stuart Binny will be the third seamer behind Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The five-match series will be followed by four Tests.
