Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that Ontong was drafted in as cover for JP Duminy.

Duminy missed the Test series against the West Indies due to a knee injury and it appears his rehabilitation is taking longer than initially predicted.

The 35-year-old Ontong has played two Tests, 28 ODIs and 12 T20s for his country.

The Proteas will play three T20s and five ODIs against the Windies, with the first T20 scheduled for Newlands on Friday.
