Kirsten lauds McLaren's effort

Cape Town - Proteas coach Gary Kirsten has lauded the impact all-rounder Ryan McLaren made in recently completed one-day series.

McLaren, 30, was South Africa's best bowler in the series win over Pakistan with 10 wickets. He also claimed eight scalps in three games against New Zealand earlier in the year.

Kirsten said it is important to be patient when a player is relatively inexperienced on the international stage.

"We've been giving him a chance for a while now and he showed he has the ability and skills required. Especially with his bowling. I think he performed fantastically well," Kirsten told the Volksblad website.

While McLaren didn't get many chances to show his worth with the bat, the coach is confident that in future he will prove himself in that category as well.

McLaren filled in as all-rounder for the rested Jacques Kallis, who is likely to return for the ICC Champions Trophy in England in June.

"I'm sure he will fulfil a role with the bat when required," said Kirsten

Kallis and McLaren will be team-mates in the upcoming IPL tournament in India next month when they represent the Kolkata Knight Riders.
