Cape Town - Proteas coach Gary Kirsten believes his current squad can become a dominant force in world cricket.
Kirsten told Volksblad there's so much talent in South Africa that they probably have the best group of players they've had in the last 20 years.
Kirsten was part of a strong Proteas team in the 1990's but the coach feels his current squad eclipses that one.
"The team of the 90's was a good one, but not a big one. The current one has the ability to become a big one," said Kirsten.
He did acknowledge though that a few tough obstacles lie ahead in the near future, referring to the upcoming tour to England in July and the one to Australia at the end of the year.
"It makes me excited but at the same time also anxious because one would like to see things run smoothly."
Before the England tour the Proteas will play a T20 series in Zimbabwe in June. It was initially scheduled as a five-match series between South Africa and Zimbabwe but Bangladesh has since been added to the mix.
The Tri-series starts on June 24.
