Justin Ontong to lead SA 'A'

Cape Town - Justin Ontong of the Cape Cobras will captain South Africa 'A' in their T20 tour match against the New Zealand Black Caps at the Maritzburg Oval on Tuesday, December 18.

The squad also includes other Proteas caps in Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Dane Vilas and Roelof van der Merwe as well as Aaron Phangiso who will make his Proteas debut in the T20 International Series against New Zealand that follows this match.

There is also an emphasis on up-and-coming younger players such as Stiaan van Zyl, Mangaliso Mosehle, Hardus Viljoen and Craig Alexander.

“These are exciting times for South African cricket,” commented South Africa A coach Vinnie Barnes.

“There are several youngsters in the Proteas T20 International squad and this match will give opportunity for some more youngsters to show their worth.

“There are also players who have represented the Proteas before and they will want to remind the selectors that they are still in the mix.”
