Cape Town - The Proteas’ extended cricket tour of England is one of the most keenly-awaited tussles in recent times, pitting as it does the top two Test nations on the planet against each other.

If South Africa win the three-Test series, they will return to No 1 on the ICC rankings, while the later, limited-overs portion of the tour also features two high-riding teams on the ladder.
Sport24 will provide in-depth coverage throughout the visit, headed by our chief writer Rob Houwing, who will provide daily assessments of the Proteas based on SuperSport’s television coverage, and on-site cricket-writing veteran Colin Bryden.
Bryden is long-time editor of the SA Cricket Annual and former cricket correspondent for the Sunday Times, and has attended every South African tour of England in the post-isolation era, starting in 1994.
Houwing, a former editor of The Wisden Cricketer magazine, was at Lord’s for Sport24 for the first Test of the 2008 series, won 2-1 by the Proteas, and has been at such landmark matches as the maiden post-isolation Test against West Indies in Barbados in 1992 and the fateful World Cup semi-final against Australia at Edgbaston in 1999.
The Test series starts at The Oval on July 19, and moves on to Headingley (August 2-6) and Lord’s (August 16-20).
The first of five ODIs takes place on August 24, and the three-match Twenty20 international series begins on September 8.
