Cape Town - New Proteas coach Russell Domingo could from time to time call on the services Gary Kirsten - the man he replaced as national coach.

Domingo will on Thursday name his technical team ahead of his maiden tour as head coach of the Proteas, and according to the ESPNcricinfo website, it could include Kirsten.

According to the website, Kirsten may be retained in a consultancy capacity and will work a set number of days with the national team.

Domingo indicated he would keep the same support staff Kirsten put in place which means Allan Donald will likely stay on as bowling coach. The only additions will be a new assistant coach, with the Highveld Lions' Geoffrey Toyana and Cape Cobras' Paul Adams considered to be the frontrunners. A new fitness trainer will also be announced after Rob Walter was put in-charge of the Titans.

Meanwhile, convenor of selectors Andrew Hudson will also announce the respective ODI and T20 squads to play in five ODIs and two T20s against Sri Lanka, as well as the South Africa 'A' squad to play against India 'A' and Australia 'A' later this month.

The Proteas depart for Sri Lanka on Sunday, July 14, with the first ODI scheduled for Saturday, July 20.

SA 'A' will play two unofficial Tests against Australia 'A', the first of which is set for July 24-27 at the LC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria.

One big omission from Domingo's first squad could be strike bowler Dale Steyn, who according to team manager Mohammed Moosajee, still needs "about three weeks of rehabilitation".
