Domingo set to coach Proteas

Cape Town -  Proteas assistant coach Russell Domingo is set to takeover as national coach after Gary Kirsten’s decision not to renew his contract.

According to Beeld, the announcement is expected on Saturday.

Kirsten was appointed from the beginning of August 2011 for a two-year period with an option to renew it for a further two years.

His contract required him to inform the Board by April 30, 2013 whether he wished to exercise that option.

He has informed the Board that he will not be renewing his contract for family reasons.

Kirsten had already handed control of South Africa's Twenty20 team to Domingo.

Kirsten said his decision not to renew his contract had nothing to do with CSA’s request for an investigation into the
Africanisation of SA cricket at all levels.
