Kallis ended his 166-Test career on Monday with a match and a 1-0 series victory over India, in which he contributed a vital knock of 115.

Kallis scored 13 289 Test runs at an average of 55.37, including 45 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He also took 292 wickets at an average of 32.65.

He ended as the third-highest leading run-scorer in Test cricket and his average is higher than both Sachin Tendulkar (53.78) and Ricky Ponting (51.85) who are ahead of him on the runs-scored list with 15 921 and 13 378 respectively.

Tendulkar, who himself recently retired after playing his 200th Test, took to Twitter to congratulate Kallis on a fine career.

He posted the following on Tuesday: It's been a joy to have played against you. Jacques you are a true Champion. Retired life isn't so bad :-))

Two former Australian greats, leg-spinner Shane Warne and fast bowler Glenn McGrath, also lauded Kallis.

Warne said: @jacqueskallis75 Good luck buddy. Congrats on an amazing career, you will go down as a legend & more importantly a great bloke. Yeah Yeah ??

McGrath tweeted: Congrats @jacqueskallis75 on an amazing career. Loved the challenge of playing against you. 1 of the best all-rounders of all time #respect
