CSA congratulates Proteas on series victory

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) congratulated the Oxigen Proteas on winning the inaugural T20 International Series against India at Cuttack on Monday with a game to spare.

The Proteas won the first match on Friday at Dharmashala by 7 wickets and then achieved an emphatic victory in the second match here by 6 wickets for an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series according the CSA website. The final match will be played at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens on Thursday.

“This is exactly the start we needed for our first Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela icon tour and this T20 series win positions us well for the upcoming ODI and Test matches,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “The team played brilliantly in the two opening T20 matches and that will give them plenty of confidence.

“The Proteas have arguably played their best back-to-back T20 International matches and this is the sort of consistency they must strive for.

“Today’s performance was a wonderful all-round effort. It was one of our best fielding performances in a while and was matched by the intensity of our bowlers before the batters finished the job.

“On behalf of all our fans I have pleasure in congratulating coach, Russell Domingo, captain, Faf du Plessis and all the players and team management on their early success on this lengthy tour,” concluded Lorgat.
