Biff, Bouch seem safe for now

Cape Town - Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher look set to remain in the Proteas' plans for their upcoming tour to New Zealand next month.

The Beeld newspaper reports that the nationals selectors are expected to name the touring party for the New Zealand tour this week, with Smith and Boucher's names expected to be included.

The two veterans, who have a combined Test and ODI tally of 276 and 475 matches respectively, came under intense scrutiny over the last month or so after some indifferent performances.

Smith's ODI spot seems safe for now after his timely century against Sri Lanka at the Wanderers on Sunday, while Boucher's experience of New Zealand conditions, combined with a lack of a suitable successor, seem enough for his boarding pass down under.

Smith will, however, need to improve on his consistency after a torrid last two years in the limited overs format. In 2010 he averaged 32.80, in 2011 27.93 and his 2012 average before last weekend was 12.
