Dhaka - Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat in the first one day international against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.

The match was reduced to a 40-over-a-side game after incessant monsoon rains delayed the start of play for two hours and 40 minutes.

South Africa handed paceman Kagiso Rabada his ODI debut while leaving out squad members Aaron Phangiso, Wayne Parnell, Morne Morkel and Ryan McLaren from the starting line-up.

Arafat Sunny, Rubel Hossain and Anamul Haque missed out for Bangladesh.

The second and third ODI of the three-match series will be held on July 12 and 15 respectively in Dhaka and Chittagong.
