Proteas start tour on high note

Cape Town - The Proteas started their Sri Lankan tour on a high note by beating a Sri Lankan President's XI by 108 runs in Moratuwa on Thursday.

After being asked to bat first, the South Africans posted 297/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Hashim Amla was the top run-scorer, notching 104 off 79 balls, before retiring out.

JP Duminy (54 off 56 balls), Faf du Plessis (41 off 55) and AB de Villiers (41 off 27, retired out) were the other noteworthy contributors to the South African cause.

The Sri Lankans were then bowled out for 189 in 39.2 overs, with Morné Morkel (3/29) and Wayne Parnell (2/15) South Africa's best bowlers.

The first ODI against Sri Lanka starts in Colombo on Sunday.
