Amla in line for top ICC award

Cape Town - Hashim Amla is in line to win the ultimate accolade at the LG ICC awards banquet to be held in Bangaluru, India, on October 6.

He has been nominated along with the India duo of Sachin Tendukar and Virender Sehwag and England’s Graeme Swann for the Cricketer of the Year award.

Another Protea, Dale Steyn, will vie for the Test Cricketer of the Year award with Tendulkar, Sehwag and Amla.

The ICC announced the final short list for the various categories on Monday.

South Africa is well represented as AB de Villiers is a finalist for ODI cricketer of the year while Ryan McLaren, who took South Africa’s first ever five-wicket haul in a Pro20 International match, has been nominated for the Performance of the Year, in this format.
