Proteas vie for fans vote

Johannesburg - Proteas’ fans will have their say and come up with three nominations for the CSA Fans Cricketer of the Year, which will be presented at the 2010 SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday, 20 July 2010 at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Online voting has now opened and will run until Thursday, 8 July 2010.

Fans who participate in the search for the CSA Fans Cricketers of the Year stand a chance of winning one of two VIP Invitations and the cricket experience of a lifetime. The winner and three friends will enjoy CSA's most memorable night of the year - the SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner.

The 2009 Fans Cricketer of the Year, AB de Villiers, said: “The fans are the lifeblood of our great game. There is no greater inspiration than a full stadium packed with Proteas’ fans to bring out the best in the boys. The fans support us through the bad times as well as the good ones and they have played a major part in getting us to where we are today.”

The 2010 SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner, held in association with Castle, Standard Bank and MTN, is the culmination of CSA Day, a day set aside annually by CSA, to celebrate the achievements of the South African cricket family, both on and off the field during the past season.

CSA Day starts with the SA Cricket Awards breakfast, in association with KFC, which is held to celebrate the stars of tomorrow, followed by the CSA Golf Invitational, which gives key stakeholders an opportunity to have a round of golf with the Proteas.

In the evening, the entire Proteas team joins the CSA family and friends for cricket’s most memorable night, the 2010 SA Cricket Awards Dinner.

CSA CEO Gerald Majola said: “CSA Day is a celebration of cricket in South Africa and we are most grateful to our loyal sponsors, Castle, Standard Bank, MTN and KFC, for making this possible.

“It is particularly pleasing that the Proteas’ fans are also involved and we look forward to a massive response to the CSA Fans Cricketer of the Year Award.”

The nominees for the Awards will be announced in early July, following the completion of the Proteas’ tour of the West Indies.
