Proteas player fails dope test

Johannesburg - A South African anti-doping organisation says Proteas all-rounder Rory Kleinveldt has failed a doping test.

The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport said on Thursday that Kleinveldt returned a positive sample for a banned substance, but declined to give further details.

The South African Cricketers' Association had earlier said Kleinveldt, who has played two Twenty20 games for South Africa, should be withdrawn from upcoming domestic matches "as a precaution".

SACA also declined to reveal the substance but says it plans to review the medical evidence.

Kleinveldt, who turned 29 on Thursday, can ask for his "B'' sample to be tested.

ARGGGHHH! Ban him for life. Give us back our sport. I'm sick of cheats.

      He's hardly a Protea's player. Not a regular anyway.

I'd really like someone like dr Noakes to explain why a cricketer would even bother taking steroids?!? It just doesn't make sense to me that someone would risk it in a sport that requires technical ability rather than strength.

I'm not questioning Kleinveldt (innocent till proven guilty) , just a general comment.

Banned substances can be ingested unintentionally. That said, sports stars should know what is safe, and what isn't. But, on the other hand, the list is so long, it's easy to be caught off guard. Hope it's all just a big misunderstanding.

We people are so quick to judge without knowing and understanding the circumstances. The substance detected could be anything and not neccessarily intentionaly ingested... I personally know that this boy is been battling with weight, so it could be a component in the weight loss Meds that he has been taking.
