Pretoria - The Nashua Titans produced a near perfect performance to outclass the Nashua Dolphins by 7 wickets in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at SuperSport Park on Sunday and grab second position on the log.

The Dolphins remain top of the log on 12 points with both these franchises having played 4 matches but the Titans gained a bonus point to take their total to 9 for chasing down their modest target of 104 in 15 overs and one ball. They needed to win in no more than 16 overs to claim the bonus point.

The Titans were in charge from the opening delivery of the match when Henry Davids produced a direct hit to run out Devon Conway with the latter not even facing a ball.

Worse was to follow as Loots Bosman and David Miller also failed to score with the Dolphins finding themselves on 1/3 after 2.2 overs with their solitary run having come from a wide.

Albie Morkel, who won the Standard Bank Master Blaster bowling award, and Andre Nel did a superb job with the new ball and they were brilliantly supported in the field. In addition to the Davids run out there was a superb sprawling catch in the outfield by David Wiese to remove Bosman.

The Dolphins only managed14/3 in the 6 power play overs and there was simply no way back into the match on a pitch on which the slow bowlers were difficult to get away. They finished on 103/6 with Ahmed Amla (44 off 39 balls) being far away the main contributor.

Once Jacques Rudolph and Davids had put on 55 in the Titans’ power play overs without being separated the only point of interest in the game was whether they would get a bonus point and this they did at a canter.

Davids hit some superb cover drives in making 45 off 32 balls and he was the obvious choice as Standard Bank Master Blaster batsman.

The result officially rules the Chevrolet Knights out of contention for a semi-final position but the other 5 franchises remain in the running with the Dolphins the only guaranteed qualifier.

The Chevrolet Warriors, the defending champions, are at home to the bizhub Highveld Lions at Axxess DSL St. George’s on Wednesday and the remaining matches are as follows:

Friday,February 18: Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras vs. Chevrolet Warriors at Sahara Park Newlands; Nashua Titans vs. Chevrolet Knights at SuperSport Park (both 6pm start)

Sunday, February 20: Nashua Dolphins vs. bizhub Highveld Lions at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead (2.30pm start)

Log standings: Nashua Dolphins 12 points (4 matches), Nashua Titans 9 (4), Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras 8 (4), Chevrolet Warriors 8 (3), bizhub Highveld Lions 5 (3), Chevrolet Knights 2 (4).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
