Potchefstroom - Bad weather continued to dog the Chevrolet Knights when their Standard Bank Pro20 match against the bizhub Highveld Lions at Senwes Park on Wednesday evening was washed out.
Rain has affected all 3 matches the Knights have played in this competition.
The Knights, winning the toss, made137/6 in their 20 overs thanks in the main to an innings of 47 off 38 balls from Reeza Hendricks. In reply the Lions made 12/2 in 2.3 overs before the heavens opened and made further play impossible. Both sides have to face a minimum of 5 overs for a positive result to be achieved.
The Lions bowled and fielded extremely well with Zander de Bruyn and Thami Tsolekile making run outs to account for two key batsmen in Rilee Rossouw and Ryan Bailey.
However, on a slow pitch the Knights’ total was competitive particularly after they dismissed both Lions’ opening batsmen cheaply.
The result means that the Lions have 5 points from 3 matches and the Knights 2 points, also from 3. The competition is so tight that the Knights are by no means out of contention for a semi-final place. Their next match is against the Chevrolet Warriors at the Diamond Oval on Friday evening.
On the same evening there is a key match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead between the Nashua Dolphins and the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras who are joint top of the log with 8 points each.
