Cape Town - Proteas fast bowler Vernon Philander believes his previous experience of English conditions should help him during his spell with Kent.
The 28-year-old on Thursday signed short-term deal with the division two strugglers. He will represent them over the next month before joining Jamaica in the Caribbean Premier League, which begins on July 30.
Philander thrived in English conditions last year when he featured for Somerset and also took 12 wickets in South Africa's Test series against England.
He told BBC Radio Kent: "I think the experience over here counts massively. The opportunity fitted me well and I'm just excited to get started.
"I hope my experience helps some of the younger guns in the squad and will bring them up through the ranks.
"Hopefully I can make a big difference to the team."
Philander, who has taken 89 wickets at an average of 17.13 in 16 Tests, is available to play all forms of cricket for the county.
