Heyneke turns hand to Proteas

Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has addressed the national Test cricket squad ahead of their attempt to ensure a clean sweep in the series against Pakistan at Centurion from Friday.

Opening batsman Alviro Petersen (@AlviroPetersen) issued a tweet on Wednesday, saying: “Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer chatting to us, and giving us some insight into the Springbok team. I have a new respect 4 the Springboks.”

Some time ago Gary Kirsten, coach of the No 1-ranked Proteas, provided some words of inspiration to the Bok players, so the latest move may be seen as a reciprocal gesture of sorts.

South Africa lead the Pakistanis 2-0 heading into the Test at SuperSport Park.

Meyer will doubtless be a keen onlooker at Loftus on Friday evening when the South African conference in Super Rugby gets underway with a spicy north-south clash between his former charges, the Bulls, and the Stormers.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
