Rain washes out One Day Cup final, Saturday replay

Cape Town - The One-Day Cup final will be replayed on Saturday after persistent rain forced the Friday clash between the Dolphins and Warriors to be abandoned after 39.4 overs at Kingsmead in Durban.

The hosts had reached 154/6 when umpires Allahudien Paleker and Bongani Jele first took the players off for lightening.

A heavy downpour then followed and then stopped around 30 minutes later, but the persistent drizzle kept returning after the field was cleared.

It left the officials with little choice but to call off the game and order the players to reconvene for the reserve day, which will see the match start from scratch at 13:30 on Saturday.

For the record, the home side had slipped into deep trouble on 89 for five, before Senuran Muthusamy's unbeaten 53 (90 balls, 4 fours) helped them rebuild.

Andrew Birch was the pick of the bowlers with two for 29.

Fans who purchased tickets for Friday's match will be able to use them again on Saturday.
