One Day Cup final abandoned

Cape Town - The One Day Cup Final between the Cape Cobras and the Titans at Newlands has been abandoned.

The match will be replayed on Saturday, which was set aside as a reserve day, but the prospects of play happening are remote as the weather forecast for Saturday looks rather grim.

Justin Ontong had won the toss and elected to bat first, with the Cobras reaching seven without loss after 5.5 overs before the umpires, Shaun George and Johan Cloete, took the players off the field as the heavens opened up.

The is the second successive Momentum final that has been affected by the weather, with last season’s match between the Cobras and the Higveld Lions being abandoned after both attempts were washed out, resulting in the teams sharing the trophy.

Should no play be possible on the reserve day (Saturday) then the Cobras and the Titans will share the trophy.

Play for Saturday will be a day game with a scheduled start at 10am.

Teams:

Cape Cobras: Andrew Puttick, Omphile Ramela, Stiaan van Zyl, Dane Vilas (wk), Justin Ontong (capt), Justin Kemp, Robin Peterson, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Piedt, Charl Langeveldt.

Titans: Heino Kuhn, Francois le Clus, Qaasim Adams, Farhaan Behardien (capt), Roelof van der Merwe, Cobus Pienaar, Mangaliso Mosehle (wk), Ethy Mbhalati, Graeme van Buuren, CJ de Villiers, Shaun von Berg
