Knights aim for consistency

Bloemfontein - The Knights hope to start getting some consistency going in their One Day Cup campaign when they take on the Dolphins at Chevrolet Park on Wednesday.

Veteran skipper Morné van Wyk is still on the mend from a shoulder injury, but he is hoping that his team-mates can secure a second win in the competition during Wednesday’s day/night clash.

“We haven’t had a great start - it’s been a bit up and down to be honest,” he said of the side’s comfortable win over the Warriors followed by a big loss to the Titans.
Van Wyk didn’t want to use the deluge of rain that has followed the Knights around for much of the season as an excuse, but  did admit that it hadn’t been easy for his bowlers.

“In one regard it hasn’t helped in terms of getting into rhythm, but then again you could say that we are nice and fresh for this part of the season. We’d like to get some consistency going, but the Dolphins won’t be an easy side to beat," he pointed out.

“They have got a couple of really explosive players, especially in the middle-order, and Daryn Smit looks like he has given himself the task of batting through the innings by promoting himself to No 3,” Van Wyk observed.
The opening batsman/wicketkeeper has been using his time on the sideline by branching out into a bit of broadcasting, providing studio analysis for the Test series between the Proteas and Australia. “With the rehab still going on, there was a gap in the schedule for me to try a different path, and it’s been really interesting to be in the SuperSport studio, seeing the game from a totally different perspective,” he laughed.

“Hopefully I have made some decent points while on air, though the early wake-up calls took a bit of getting used to!”

Van Wyk is hopeful that he will be back in the middle in the next few weeks, and is chomping at the bit to rejoin his Knights’ team.

“I am seeing the specialist this week and, if he gives me the all-clear, then I should be playing next week, I think. I feel much better, but it’s down to what he says, so I will be keeping my fingers crossed,” the Knights’ captain said.

Without him, the central franchise outfit will be looking to bounce back from an 81-run loss to the Titans on the weekend, when they tackle another side that attracts bad weather wherever they go in the Dolphins.

Play at Chevrolet Park starts at 15:00 on Wednesday.
