Dolphins cruise past Titans

Benoni - A 118-run partnership between Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Cody Chetty helped the Dolphins to a five wicket victory over the Titans in Benoni on Friday.

Set 238 for the win, the pair assembled in the middle with the score on 65/3 in the 15th over.

Van Jaarsveld scored at close to a run a ball with his 65 coming off 73 balls.

Van Jaarsveld played a measured innings, but was particularly harsh on loose deliveries, smashing six fours and one six in his stay at the crease.

The former Proteas' player was dismissed in the 39th over, off the bowling of Marchant de Lange, with the score on 183.

Chetty soon followed for 54 as he was caught playing back to a Shaun von Berg delivery and was given out lbw as the Dolphins slipped to 191/5.

Despite the two quick wickets, Khaya Zondo (26) and Daryn Smit (25) combined for a 49-run stand to get the Dolphins over the line with seven balls to spare.

In the Titans innings, a knock of 54 not out from wicketkeeper batsman Mangaliso Mosehle helped the Titans post 237/9 in their 50 overs.

Coming in at number nine with the score on 145/7 in the 32nd over, Mosehle looked composed and was fluent in his strokeplay, striking seven fours and one six in his innings.

Together with Farhaan Behardien, the pair shared in a 53-run partnership which pushed the home side past the 200 mark.

Opening the innings for the Titans, captain Henry Davids scored a brisk 44 coming off 56 balls before falling to the bowling of Robbie Frylinck in the 15th over.

Davids was aided by Cobus Pienaar (27) coming in at number three after opener Heino Kuhn (8) fell in the eighth over.

The two put on 50 for the third wicket before Pienaar was dismissed in the 15th over, clean bowled by Dolphins' seamer Craig Alexander.

England international Graham Onions picked up three wickets in his 10 overs, returning figures of 3-56, but was expensive conceding 5.6 runs per over.

Kyle Abbott was the pick of the Dolphins' bowlers, picking up 3-40 in his 10.
