Johannesburg - The 2010/2011 cricket season was launched at a glitzy cocktail function in Sandton on Friday night, with just three weeks to go, before the action gets underway.

The Proteas and a host of franchise and women’s cricketers attended the season launch, which took place on the final night of the CSA Annual Conference, and celebrated the rise of domestic cricket, ahead of a bumper season.
The season gets underway with the Airtel Champions League Twenty20, which features 10 of the world’s best franchise teams, battling it out for glory. South Africa will be represented by the Lions and Warriors.
Warriors star, Johan Botha, who was part of a panel discussion, that also included Lions captain Alviro Petersen, was upbeat about his team’s chances, saying: “We did really well to win the Standard Bank Pro20 competition last season, and we are looking forward to the Champions League Twenty20. We have good all-round talent, and it is going to be exciting to play in front of our home crowd at St. George’s.”
Lions captain, Alviro Petersen, said: “There is no doubt that we were not favourites on paper, going into last season’s Standard Bank Pro20, but the team did well to get to the final. We are going into the Champions League Twenty20 with high hopes, and we will hopefully play to the best of our ability.”
Cobras captain, Justin Kemp, whose team walked away with the SuperSport Series title last year, said he is excited about the new season.
“We did not start the SuperSport Series well last year, losing the first game and almost losing the second game. But, we came through with some good performances in the end. We are keen to do better in the Pro20 format and the MTN40 competition this season.”
Proteas captain, Graeme Smith, reflected on his recent resignation as International Pro20 captain - with immediate effect - and his decision to quit the ODI captaincy at the end of next year’s World Cup, saying he is looking forward to being a senior player.
“I had been thinking of it for some time, and I am comfortable it is the right decision. I am really looking forward to this season. The home series against India is going to be exciting, and we are eager to carry that energy through to next year’s Cricket World Cup in India.”
