Malinga: IPL before country

2014-07-29 14:43

Colombo - Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has informed his country's cricket chiefs that he would prefer to play for his IPL team rather than Sri Lanka's Southern Express in the Champions League T20 later this year.

Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday announced that the player had sent a letter on July 15 wherein he requested to represent the Mumbai Indians in the Champions League T20. The request letter was tabled at an Exco meeting held on July 22.

"As per the Team Participation Agreement of CLT20 - 2014, the decision on which team a player should represent is the sole prerogative of the player himself. Accordingly, whilst expressing Sri Lanka Cricket’s preference for Lasith to represent the Southern Express Team at the said event, the Executive Committee left this decision at his sole discretion," SLC said via a news statement.

This year's Champions League T20 will be held in India from September 17-October 6.

Misleading headline as it implies that Slinga would rather play the IPL than play for Sri Lanka. That is not what this issue is about.

      Richard Barnes - 2014-07-29 15:49

Not a full point if the ICC Test rankings predictor is to be believed. We are currently on 125 points. If we beat Zim, we stay on 125. Although we may go up a fraction of a point.

Yep! misleading headline indeed. The media always create and destroy players just like they did with boucher and soon to be Kallis n Tahir.

Tahir is destroying his own career by being outbowled by even Duminy.
