Malik shines for Pakistan

Abu Dhabi - Recalled Shoaib Malik hit a brilliant hundred as Pakistan made 286-4 at close on the opening day of the first Test against England in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Malik, playing his first Test in five years, was unbeaten on 124 for his third century in Tests while Asad Shafiq was 11 not out after Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Opener Mohammad Hafeez made 98 while Younis Khan became leading run-getter for Pakistan in all Test cricket during his knock of 38.

England paceman James Anderson took 2-29.

The remaining two Tests will be played in Dubai (October 22-26) and Sharjah (November 1-5).
