Majola's special plea dismissed

Johannesburg - The disciplinary hearing of suspended Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola will go ahead next week, despite a special plea brought by his legal team.

Advocate Karel Tip, the independent chairperson of Majola's hearing, on Friday dismissed the special plea and said the hearing would commence on Tuesday.

Majola was suspended in March after a long-running bonus scandal following the 2009 Indian Premier League T20 tournament which South Africa hosted.

The Nicholson inquiry, instituted after Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula called for an independent probe, found that R4.7m in bonuses had been paid to CSA staff without clearance from the board or the remuneration committee.

I am still waiting for an official apology from the CSA board to Mr Nyoka for the disgraceful manner in which they treated him. They dismissed him illegally. They were forced to re-instate him. Then they made sure of their legal grounds and dismissed him again. All the while they were covering up Majola's theft. Since the minister of sport intervened and instituted the inquiry, the entire board did an about-turn and ratted on Majola. Now they pretend to be squeaky clean and want to get rid of Majola. I still believe that the entire bourd should have resigned in disgrace and Mr Nyoka re-instated with a full pardon. But that's just me.

Officially our cricket team is the best team in the world that has never won any major tournament!! Hence the title chokers!!! Here's an interesting fact Bafana Bafan has a better track record of winning important tournaments than the Proteas!!

We were bestowed with the title ckokers in 1999, when we were barely 8 years back in international cricket. And by then we had reached 2 world cup semi finals. Someone somewhere probably figured that south africans are easily emotionally manipulated and use it against us at every tournament. Now every loss is incorrectly attributed to it. Mostly now by our very own fair weather supporters.

Well said Vernon. Only trolls with no brains and nothing better to do refer to the Proteas as chokers. True fans and supporters remain loyal win or lose. Four teams were knocked out of the super eights, and the pakis and aussies booted out of the final. Suppose they must have choked too!!
