Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) acting president AK Khan on Monday conveyed his congratulations to the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras and the Chevrolet Warriors on reaching the final of the 1-Day Cup competition.

The final will be played on Friday (15:00 start) at Sahara Park Newlands. The Cobras get home ground advantage as they finished in the higher log position.

Saturday, December 10, has been set down as a reserve day if necessary. It will be a day game, starting at 10:00.

“Both franchises have played consistently excellent cricket throughout the competition and the final will be another showcase of the strength of our domestic cricket,” Mr. Khan commented. “The presence of a large number of members of the Proteas’ Castle Lager squad will add further to the occasion.

“The CSA Cricket Committee is also to be congratulated on the changes they have made to the format of this competition which has helped to unearth some outstanding new talent and will benefit the Proteas in the long run as they prepare for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“The return to 50 overs cricket has been well received by players, fans and the Media alike and the same applies to the decision to give the team topping the log the reward of direct entry to the final.

“The fact that only three teams could qualify for the knock-out phase meant that interest was sustained right through to the last round of league matches,” he concluded.
