KP's England hopes dashed?

London - Kevin Pietersen's chances of playing again for England have been dashed after the national team's selector says the batsman is "not part of our plans."

England captain Alastair Cook didn't give Pietersen much encouragement either on Wednesday, saying a return for his former teammate is "very unlikely."

Pietersen was ditched after last year's Ashes tour, but was given hope of a recall in recent comments by Colin Graves, the incoming chairperson of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Pietersen appears willing to turn his back on a lucrative Indian Premier League contract to ensure his availability for English county cricket ahead of test series against New Zealand and Australia.

But selector James Whittaker says "we've been successfully rebuilding our test team," and that Pietersen isn't in England's thoughts.
