Proteas win toss, field first

Centurion - South Africa won the toss and sent India in to bat in the first Castle Lager Test match at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Thursday.

Live Scoring

The toss was delayed due to heavy overnight rain which continued for most of the morning. Once the rain stopped, the ground staff worked hard to get the outfield ready for a 3pm start -- four-and-a-half hours behind schedule.

Depending on the weather, 48 overs have been scheduled for the rest of the day. Tea will be taken at 4.30pm.

South Africa have a good Test record in Centurion, having won 11 of their 15 Tests played here.

India, on the other hand, have never played a Test at SuperSport Park and, of the 12 Test matches they have played on South African soil, they have achieved just one win at the Wanderers in December 2006.

India are ranked No 1 in the ICC Test Rankings and South Africa are second, with both teams boasting a number of players in the top 10 including the No 1 bowler in the rankings, Proteas speedster Dale Steyn, and the No 2 batsman in the world, Indian maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

Teams:

South Africa: Graeme Smith (capt), Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Ashwell Prince, Mark Boucher, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Paul Harris.

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Sree Sreesanth, Jaidev Unadkat.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
