Cape Town - A run out, run out and another run out riddled the Proteas' innings during their ICC Champions Trophy defeat to India at The Oval on Sunday.

WATCH: Is this the most comical run out in cricket - ever?

After a conservative start from openers Hashim Amla (35) and Quinton de Kock (53), the Proteas found themselves in a spot of bother.

Proteas skipper AB de Villiers (16) was the first to fall victim to a run out, leaving his team in trouble at 140/3.

However, an over after De Villiers' dismissal, David Miller (1) was involved in the craziest of mix-ups with Faf du Plessis (36).

Du Plessis played a delivery in the direction of third man off the bowling of Ravi Ashwin and set off for a single. But he had second thoughts before giving up on the idea and dived back into his crease.

However, Miller at the non-striker's end was fully committed to the single and he too dived to make his ground at Du Plessis' end.

The comical scene of both batsmen trying to make the same crease allowed Indian skipper Virat Kohli to complete the easiest of run outs at the other end - to Miller's demise.

The Proteas were eventually bundled out for 191 with India completing the run-chase with ease - winning by eight wickets - and knocking South Africa out of yet another ICC event before the final.
