Cape Town - Western Province Cricket Association CEO André Odendaal says there is still a chance that Newlands could host a Test between South Africa and India this summer.
This comes after it was announced that India's tour to these shores would be greatly curtailed.
The month-long tour in December will comprise of a mere two Tests and three ODIs - much less than the three Tests, seven ODIs and three T20s initially planned.
This means there is no Test schedule for the traditional New Year's Test, which occurs annually at Newlands from January 2-6.
This led some to believe that a Test between South Africa and India at the country's best supported ground would not take place this summer.
However, the venues for the two Tests are yet to be announced and Odendaal is hopeful that Cape Town would play host to one of them.
"We have to wait and see what happens and what dates will be determined. No-one knows what will happen and we don't want to speculate," Odendaal told Die Burger's website.
A decision on where the games will be played is expected to be made this weekend.
