Cape Town - Former South African first class cricketer, Brett Matthews, passed away on Thursday.
Matthews, who was the brother of former Western Province and Proteas fast bowler Craig, was in an induced coma in a Pretoria hospital for a month after being involved in a car accident on New Year’s Day.
The left-arm medium paced bowler represented Western Province, Eastern Province and Transvaal in a first class career which spanned six years between 1984 and 1990. He was 50 years old.
Craig Matthews confirmed the news via Twitter on Thursday.
“Our dear brother Brett passed away this afternoon, RIP, big guy. Thanks for all the support,” Matthews tweeted.
