Durban - Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis shared a third-wicket partnership of 292 runs to put South Africa "A" in total control on the second day of their four-day match against Sri Lanka A at Kingsmead on Sunday.

South Africa finished the day on 425/6 for an overall lead of 255 runs after they had dismissed Sri Lanka for 170 on the first day.

Elgar (171 off 302 balls, 19 fours) completed his 16th first-class century and skipper Du Plessis (144 off 225 balls, 12 fours and 2 sixes) completed his eighth first-class century.

On the first day Rory Kleinveldt and Wayne Parnell had taken 7 wickets between them in 29 overs.

Sri Lanka were dismissed in only 41 overs which meant that Imran Tahir did not get the chance to bowl ahead of the Proteas’ tour of England.

@Louis - At the age of 28 hardly an upcoming talent

Both Faf & Dean have dominated our domestic leagues for some time now & no doubt they will both serve fantastic international careers for the Proteas in the years to come. Surely it must be time to get Elgar into the SA set-up (granted I know he got his chance then got injured)... this boy is a serious talent and has been by far our most prolific & consistent domestic batsman for a good couple of years now (in all forms of the game). Gary Kirsten has gone on record saying that he thinks Elgar is one of the best 'technically correct' batsmen he has seen since Kallis, and what's more is he rates him as a genuine all-rounder, Dean having taken a load of wickets with his left-arm spin of late & is a superb fielder. Personally I think Elgar is a better bet than a guy like Duminy. Just saying. At 25yrs of age... it's time the Protea's do a lil springclean and get this boytjie involved!
