No play before lunch at the Wanderers

Johannesburg - Rain prevented play before lunch on the first day of the fourth and final Test between South Africa and England at the Wanderers on Friday.

With rain having fallen steadily since early morning, both teams delayed their departures from their hotels until mid-morning when the rain eased.

The weather brightened enough for the covers to be removed and the umpires inspected the ground at noon, the scheduled time for the lunch break.

A further inspection was due at 12:45.

England hold an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the series.
